Test Drive Meme 010

Welcome to our Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab some samples and start having fun!

1. Post with your character. I’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they have been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action!

3. Have much fun!

Happy testing!

Greenhouse

The newest carriage is a greenhouse.

The ceiling is a dome shape, a single metal beam runs from one end to another, mounted on this beam are large bright lights.

The aisle of grass runs down the middle, from one door to the next. Stone paths branch off around raised beds of soil. Nothing is growing yet but there are crates in which passengers can find a whole host of seeds and bulbs for various flowers.

Plenty for passengers with green fingers to do! Plant some seeds, tend to those they have planted already. Chase away people who have no idea what they are doing! Remind them they have to take the seeds out of the packet first!

If planting is a new thing then the ICP has some handy gardening tips or they can always ask their fellow Voidtreckers!

Sports Balls

For those who prefer their hobbies much more energetic then the gym's cupboard is full of balls. Balls for every sport they can imagine! The space is long and narrow which means a little bit of adapting but there is plenty of fun to be had. Start a game of football, or basket ball.

Make some new friends and get some friendly rivalry going!

Monkey Madness!

It's a strange mission to be sure but the Voidtreckers have been called to help a huge zoo tackle a problem. Every monkey enclosure has been broken open and the creatures have gotten out and into the city, where they are causing mayhem.

Team One

Though the monkeys don't pose much threat to human life they cause quite a big of damage. Team one is to try and get as many businesses and homes safe as possible. Bring things indoors, reinforce doors and windows. Warn those in the city of the incoming horde!

Team Two

Round up the monkeys! The aim is to do this without harming and luckily they have some capture devices, that can be thrown to spring straps around a creature. Bribing them is also encouraged. The city has prepared vans for the creatures to be lured or taken to. Careful though, these monkeys are cunning and mischievous and clever enough to steal the capture devices and throw them back at the Voidtreckers! Who is catching who?

Team Three

Back in the zoo there is plenty to do. First and foremost the enclosures need fixing and reinforced. Also an investigation is underway to figure out what happened and who is responsible. If DIY or investigating work is not in a passengers skill set then there are still many other animals that need fed and cleaned!

Reward time!

Soon all the monkeys are back in their proper homes and the city put back to rights! As a thank you the zoo is handing out free ice cream and a free pass to enjoy the zoo for the day.

Have fun!

a. Greenhouse

Leviathan had never planted a single thing in his life, but it didn't mean he didn't have an appreciation for nature. He was content just being in the greenhouse carriage, enjoying the smell of grass and earth. He'd settled himself next to one of the empty stretches of soil, humming a little tune to himself as he unpackaged bulbs and gently planted them.

His sleeves were rolled up so he wouldn't get them dirty, revealing the burn scars that covered his left hand and arm. Indeed, the scars covered most of the left side of his body, visible above his shirt collar where they stopped just shy of his chin. He considered himself lucky that his head hadn't been burned, as well, because things were already difficult enough as it was.

He wasn't letting his scars bother him for the moment, though, as he carefully covered the flower bulbs, patting the dirt down lightly. It felt good to get his hands dirty in a literal sense. It was normal, therapeutic even.

b. Rewards

He hadn't very much enjoyed chasing down monkeys, but now that everything was in order again, he had a chance to relax. And enjoy some ice cream, which he'd never actually had before. Or, if he had, it'd been so long ago that he'd forgotten, which was also a possibility. He'd never been to a zoo before, either, and it was fascinating to see all the different kinds of animals. But..

"It's sad, isn't it?" he said. "Wild animals caged for the entertainment of others? Humans would put everything in a zoo if they could." Not that demons were that much different, but that didn't mean Leviathan approved of it when they did it, either.

Bucky walked in a few minutes later, his bag slung over his shoulder like it always seemed to be. He wandered over to Levi, crouching down next to him. "Flowers or potatoes?" He'd come in, apparently, after the bulbs had been fully concealed. "And more importantly, are you doing another row?"

[personal profile] beastofthedeep 2020-03-20 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Leviathan looked up, for a moment feeling self-conscious and moving to hide his left arm from view. In the past, trying to cover and hide his scars had done little to stop people from reacting to them, so he wasn't sure it would do any good here, but habits were hard to break.

"Flowers," he replied warmly, "And I was considering another row, yes. Why, were you thinking of planting some yourself?"

[personal profile] luckybucky 2020-03-21 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Bucky's gaze went straight to the scarred arm when Levi moved to hide it, but his attention didn't stay there for long, turning back to the bulbs. "I was just going to check on what I'd already planted, but it's not like I have a strict schedule to adhere to," he chuckles, and reaches up with his metal hand, sliding it through his hair. "What're you putting here?" he asks lightly.

[personal profile] beastofthedeep 2020-03-21 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
He was prepared to become defensive, but nothing happened. It was enough to have him relaxing a fraction, though he didn't rule out that something would be said later. For now though, he appreciated the lack of comment, good or bad. Similarly, he was momentarily distracted by the sight of Bucky's metal hand. It was fascinating, but he bit his tongue and didn't say a word.

"I think these are daffodils," he replied, looking around for the discarded packaging to double-check. "Are you a fan of flowers?" Or had Bucky planted something else?
luckybucky: (You adorable dork)

[personal profile] luckybucky 2020-03-21 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, you could say that," Bucky agreed, offering a little smile as he watched Levi checking the package. "I've never grown any before, though. Maybe you can show me the right technique?" He was sure he could learn from reading the package, but he was trying to connect with people. To remember how to be 'normal' instead of focusing on staying hidden. "I'm Bucky, by the way."

[personal profile] beastofthedeep 2020-03-21 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Laughing softly, he shook his head a little. "I'm afraid this is my first time planting anything," he admitted, "So I'm not sure I'm the right person to ask. Though I do know you have to point them the right way up." Or else they wouldn't grow properly. "It's a pleasure to meet you," he added, "My name is Leviathan."

[personal profile] luckybucky 2020-03-21 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
"We'll just have to figure it out together," he replies with a warm chuckle. "Leviathan, huh? That's one hell of a name. What's that package say about spacing the bulbs apart? Maybe we can fit three rows in this one box..."

[personal profile] beastofthedeep 2020-03-21 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
There was an unintentional pun in there, and Leviathan couldn't help but smile. "It most certainly is," he agreed. He would have offered up a nickname instead, but he didn't really have any.

Checking the package again, he shook his head. "It doesn't say. I guess the only way to find out how close they can be planted is to try." And see if they grew. He couldn't see why they wouldn't, but he wasn't an expert on plants.
luckybucky: (You adorable dork)

[personal profile] luckybucky 2020-03-21 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
Bucky nods. "And if some of them are too small, we can always transplant the middle row out," probably. He isn't actually sure about that -- but he knows he's seen people doing that king of thing in gardens before. So maybe it is.

Maybe he should get someone to order a book on it with his points. He peered at the package around Levi, then reached over, using his metal hand to start digging a little hole for a bulb. "Does that look good enough?" Was it like the ones Levi had made before Bucky had crashed his plant planting party?

[personal profile] beastofthedeep 2020-03-21 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that was more experience than Leviathan had; he'd never watched anyone garden. His family had always been too busy for that kind of thing, and in hell...well, his castle didn't really have gardens.

Peering at the hole Bucky had made, Leviathan compared it to a bulb, then nodded. "I think they should be a few inches deeper than the bulbs themselves," he said, moving the package of bulbs between them. And Bucky hadn't crashed his planting party; Leviathan was enjoying his company so far.

[personal profile] luckybucky 2020-03-21 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Bucky nods, digging the hole a little deeper, and when he thought it was good enough, he started on another, keeping each hole lined up with the first row Levi had planted -- even though they were already covered now, he seemed to know exactly where to make his own little holes.

The silence is comfortable enough, but Bucky is nothing if not a curious guy. "So what were you up to, before the train snatched you away?" he asks lightly. "Everybody seems to be from different places and times -- worlds, even."

[personal profile] beastofthedeep 2020-03-21 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
After Bucky dug a hole, Leviathan settled a bulb in it, gently covering it over. The real question here was how honestly he should reply. Things had just been settling down at home, and he'd been happy for the first time in many years.

"I'd just reconciled with a loved one," he said. "We'd spent too many years apart, for no good reason. In fact, a lot of problems in my life were being solved." He was careful to avoid mentioning hell or any other specifics. While he wasn't ashamed of being a demon, he didn't want to overwhelm a complete stranger, especially not one who seemed so kind.

"I must admit, I'm not too surprised at the idea of multiple worlds," he admitted. "I've heard of and seen far stranger things."

luckybucky: (Sorry I guess?)

[personal profile] luckybucky 2020-03-22 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Bucky chuckles softly. "Yeah? You must have luck as bad as mine to get whisked away right then," his smile is a little sad as he says it, though. "I'd just reconnected with my best friend... would've preferred it without the manhunt, but," he shrugs his shoulders, finishing up another hole, then going on to make the next.

"I think this is about the weirdest thing I've ever dealt with, though. A train, chugging along through a void that isn't space... or something. People from my own world, but all different points in time. It's pretty wild."

[personal profile] beastofthedeep 2020-03-22 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
"My condolences," Leviathan said. He wasn't...exactly too concerned himself; he had all the time in the world to get back home, but he knew that not everybody had such a luxury. "I hope everything here will be sorted out in a timely manner."

He made a thoughtful noise. The 'different points in time' thing was pretty strange, but considering he'd been kidnapped from hell, he was sure this place would have some way of explaining it, if they could only find the answers. After a moment's hesitation, he finally added, "Does your world have an afterlife?"
luckybucky: (Is this real life?)

[personal profile] luckybucky 2020-03-22 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
That... was an extremely weird question. Bucky pauses mid-movement, blinking a few times before continuing. "I don't know," he replies honestly. "I was raised going to church and all, but I've been closer to dead than alive most of my life and never saw anything that indicated there was more than cold and darkness," he replies with a little shrug. "Of course, when I was more dead than alive, I was also frozen, so..." Take from that what you will.

[personal profile] beastofthedeep 2020-03-22 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
He was aware that it came out of nowhere, but he had a reason, at least. "That's fair." He hadn't spent a lot of time around humans, but he knew that there was a lot of debate on the existence of an afterlife. "There's an afterlife where I'm from." To put it simply. "It makes ending up on a train traveling through the void a little easier to handle, knowing that there are already different planes of existence."
luckybucky: (A saucy mess)

[personal profile] luckybucky 2020-03-22 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
Bucky tilts his head, making a couple more holes before he decides what he wants to ask. "Are the scars from what killed you?" his voice is soft enough that Levi could easily get away with pretending he didn't hear.

[personal profile] beastofthedeep 2020-03-22 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh..." Of all the things, he hadn't been expecting that sort of question. He should have; he was the one who brought up the afterlife to begin with. There was so much to explain about it, but he hardly knew where to start; he hadn't talked to anyone who wasn't a demon in a very long time. "No, it's... there was an accident-" but it wasn't really an accident, he just didn't want to get into the fact that he'd been trapped with a fire on purpose "-I survived the fire," he said quietly. "I...I was born in heaven."

Bucky's brows lift a little at that answer, but he can't quite hide a grin when Levi explains where he was born. "My arm got ripped off when I fell down a cliff. Some mad scientists replaced it with the metal one," he'd leave off all the nastier details about it for now.

"So did it hurt, when you fell from heaven?" he asks in a light, suggestive tone, his grin coming out full-force now.

[personal profile] beastofthedeep 2020-03-26 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
"My condolences." Because that didn't sound like it had been pleasant in the slightest.

For a moment, Leviathan didn't even know how to respond to that, staring intently at the holes in the soil as if they were the most fascinating things on the entire train. On the one hand, he didn't want to overwhelm his companion, but on the other he didn't want to lie.

"It did, actually, quite a lot," he replied.

[personal profile] luckybucky 2020-03-26 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Bucky's grin vanishes in an instant, replaced by an incredibly dark blush. "Oh... uh. I'm sorry. It's... it's a pick up line. Where I'm from," and he'd never thought Levi wasn't still an angel.

But did that mean..? His blush fades as his curiosity and unease ramps up. "But does that mean you're human, or like... a demon?"

[personal profile] beastofthedeep 2020-03-26 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
"It's alright," he said, looking up. But, wait. Did that mean Bucky had been flirting with him? It was Leviathan's turn to blush, because he wasn't used to anyone--except Belial and maybe Lucifer--flirting with him in the slightest. He never would have known if Bucky hadn't explained it.

"Mmmm." He considered that for a moment, looking back down at the flower bulbs. "I'm a demon. But I have no plans to hurt anyone." In case Bucky was worried about that.
