Test Drive Meme 010

Welcome to our Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab some samples and start having fun!

1. Post with your character. I’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they have been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action!

3. Have much fun!

Happy testing!

Greenhouse

The newest carriage is a greenhouse.

The ceiling is a dome shape, a single metal beam runs from one end to another, mounted on this beam are large bright lights.

The aisle of grass runs down the middle, from one door to the next. Stone paths branch off around raised beds of soil. Nothing is growing yet but there are crates in which passengers can find a whole host of seeds and bulbs for various flowers.

Plenty for passengers with green fingers to do! Plant some seeds, tend to those they have planted already. Chase away people who have no idea what they are doing! Remind them they have to take the seeds out of the packet first!

If planting is a new thing then the ICP has some handy gardening tips or they can always ask their fellow Voidtreckers!

Sports Balls

For those who prefer their hobbies much more energetic then the gym's cupboard is full of balls. Balls for every sport they can imagine! The space is long and narrow which means a little bit of adapting but there is plenty of fun to be had. Start a game of football, or basket ball.

Make some new friends and get some friendly rivalry going!

Monkey Madness!

It's a strange mission to be sure but the Voidtreckers have been called to help a huge zoo tackle a problem. Every monkey enclosure has been broken open and the creatures have gotten out and into the city, where they are causing mayhem.

Team One

Though the monkeys don't pose much threat to human life they cause quite a big of damage. Team one is to try and get as many businesses and homes safe as possible. Bring things indoors, reinforce doors and windows. Warn those in the city of the incoming horde!

Team Two

Round up the monkeys! The aim is to do this without harming and luckily they have some capture devices, that can be thrown to spring straps around a creature. Bribing them is also encouraged. The city has prepared vans for the creatures to be lured or taken to. Careful though, these monkeys are cunning and mischievous and clever enough to steal the capture devices and throw them back at the Voidtreckers! Who is catching who?

Team Three

Back in the zoo there is plenty to do. First and foremost the enclosures need fixing and reinforced. Also an investigation is underway to figure out what happened and who is responsible. If DIY or investigating work is not in a passengers skill set then there are still many other animals that need fed and cleaned!

Reward time!

Soon all the monkeys are back in their proper homes and the city put back to rights! As a thank you the zoo is handing out free ice cream and a free pass to enjoy the zoo for the day.

Have fun!

"That's gotta be it. Alien plants. Hold on, I'm not sneezing because it's implanted it's babies in me and they're gonna burst out of my stomach am I?" Duo asked, violet eyes wide. Until he realised that flowers weren't the same as those face hugging aliens from that one movie and he relaxed with a big grin.

"Hey sure, rock garden sounds safer than whatever plague these things are carrying." For good measure he sneezed a third time, shot a glare at the offending flower and then turned to head out of the greenhouse and toward the gardens.

"...I really don't think that's possible," Mami laughs, though there's a lingering doubt. She's not entirely sure. Magic can do strange things, after all. But that's silly, right? She decides it must be.

"You'll be okay! Come on!" And she'll rush to the rock garden car. It's very peaceful, with small ponds and quaint bridges...and of course, the rocks. "This is a good place to relax."

Duo laughed as the girl ran past him to get to the rock garden first. Not one to be outdone he followed at a jog and reached her side not long after.

"It's not bad." He agreed and dropped his butt down onto one of the rocks close to a small pond. He grinned and reached down to flick his fingers through the water. "Didn't have things like this growing up. You're right though, it's a good place to relax. And if I can avoid flower babies being implanted in me, all the better!"

Mami had to laugh. She picked a nearby rock to sit on, enjoying the peace...this was such a strange feeling after everything. "I don't think there's any danger here. The water's too shallow, and the rocks aren't going to pick themselves up and fight."

"Oh man, now you've done it!" Duo laughed and leaned forward, arms draped across his knees as he grinned merrily over at the girl. "You never ever challenge the fates! They're fickle. You say these rocks won't pick themselves up and fight? Next thing you know a giant stone golem comes barrelling toward us to prove you wrong!"

That was something he'd learned the hard way. Never ever underestimate how dangerous a thing could be. Even something as innocent as a rock garden. Especially on this train! Anything could happen here.

"Oh, I wouldn't worry about that," she says mysteriously. "Even if they do, no one will get hurt. I hear the passengers here are pretty strong."

And she'll do her part, but she can't really advertise that.

Duo didn't have any powers to speak of. At least magically speaking. Want someone killed with a garrote? He's your man! Need someone to by-pass firewalls and hack into an enemies computers to have them all play a certain song by a certain man named Rick? He could do that! Want him to get in a giant ass mechanical suit and do damage? Sure thing, that's just a normal Tuesday for him. But magic? No. That was a mystery to him.

So when the girl spoke all mysterious, Duo's brows rose as he wondered if she knew something he didn't and suddenly he was looking around and wondered if any of the stone statues were actually alive. Now wasn't that just ass clenchingly unsettling to think about?

"Riiiiight, nothing to worry about at all." He rolled his eyes and looked back at the girl, grin back in place. "Y'know, don't think we've been formally introduced. Duo Maxwell's the name, and you are?"

"Mami Tomoe. Pleased to meet you." She's smiling as brightly as ever. It's a little strange.

"Oh, don't worry! I haven't run into anything on this train that's unsafe just yet, and it's been a week. Usually it turns up before then."

"That's totally reassuring!" Duo laughed, not feeling the least bit reassured! But he supposed if something bad were to show up there were more than enough people around who could deal with that sort of thing. He'd bumped into several weird and wonderfully strange people since he boarded the train. None of his friends back home would ever believe the things he'd seen! They'd cart him off to the nearest funny farm and, honestly, Duo wouldn't have blamed them! Sometimes he wondered if this was all just a figment of his imagination. One too many knocks to the head.

"Oh, I'm just teasing," Mami admits. Finally. "But it's really going to be okay. It's safe enough here. And the ponds are relaxing to look at, don't you think?"

Duo slapped a hand against his chest, over his heart, and made a dramatic show of it. "Teasing me? So cruel! How could you? How will I ever recover?" He exclaimed in a near wail of anguish... And then he burst out laughing and straightened himself up. "Nah, you're cool. I figured you might have been. But you never know on this train!"

At the mention of the ponds, Duo turned to look down into one, his yard long braid slipped over his shoulder and the tufted end just barely touched the surface of the water. "They're nice to be around, that's for sure."

"You're just fine," Mami promises with a smile. Oh, this was fun. She hasn't had a chance in a while. It's nice. If a little strange.

"Almost like home?"
maxwellsdaemon: (Happy smiles)

[personal profile] maxwellsdaemon 2020-03-18 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
"On Earth, sure. But home? Didn't have anything like this where I was born." He'd only learned that these were a thing after he'd landed on earth. And that had only been a few years ago. So not long at all when he stopped to think about it.

"Maybe that's why I can appreciate them more." He mused idly as he dropped a hand to once again lightly touch the surface of the water and send ripples through it.

"You were born...pretty far away, I guess," she muttered. That was interesting. She'd never met someone from far away before, unless Kyubey counted.

"Was it like this train, where you were from?"
maxwellsdaemon: (chilled)

[personal profile] maxwellsdaemon 2020-03-20 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
"Could say that." Duo flashed Mami a grin. "I was born on a space station in orbit around the Earth. Never actually set foot on real soil until I was about 15. Definitely not like this train!" He laughed then, amused by the notion. If he'd been born somewhere like the train, maybe it wouldn't have been so bad? Where he was actually born had sucked. But that was never a fun story to tell.

"Nah, years ago some old guys decided "Hey, why don't we go and live in space?" and so they made a bunch of these space stations in orbit. Each one kinda different, but all doing the same thing. Lots of people live on them. They sorta work like mini-Earths. Have day and night cycles, artificial gravity so they don't go floating everywhere, some even try and mimic seasons. Though things like rain and snow don't happen."
