Passenger IC Questionnaire

Congratulations! You’re now on the Void Train and no, that’s not a band name. This is, for better or worse, a new world for all of us and we’re stuck here. In order to detect patterns in these abductions, I’m conducting a survey. Please answer everything to the best of your ability. If you have any questions about the form please consult whoever is standing next to you other than me, because you should be intelligent enough to answer these very straight forward questions.

Is Joss from your world or from the one you were taken to before this one?

[Did that sentence make sense? He hoped it did. Also, he wasn't sure where to even start with all of this dead and God stuff.]

What's a shinki?

Um the one I was on before this one. I don't think he was from my world, I think his world was very different.

[He paused because technically humans weren't supposed to know about the far shore. But he was pretty sure it wasn't a big secret and this was a different world. He's sure of that. Plus everyone could see him here, even the grown ups.]

A shinki is a vessel for a god. Um... There's lots of gods and they all live in the heavens. The new gods come from lots of different worlds and are brought to the heavens... Like we were brought to this train. The new Shinki are brought from different worlds too. Shinki are people who died and then gods name us and we work as a team to fight ayakashi because if gods call our name we turn into a weapon or an animal or a thing to fight the ayakashi with!

[He thinks that's everything!]

Do the gods use people who are already dead or do they use people by killing them first?

[Wait what? Romeo's eyes go wide as the implications of that hit him! That was a terrible thought! That gods would kill people just to make them into shinki! He shook his head really quickly because he can't let Tony think that about his friends for one moment more.] No sir! We're already dead. I don't really know how it works because I'm not a god but we just appear in heaven and we are dead and the gods name us. Elfnein would never hurt anyone ever and none of the other gods would either because they are really friendly and really kind!

[Wow. Good work, kid. You have blown his mind more than not!Luke. Although when he sees that expression on the kid's face, he does feel a stab of guilt. Okay, less blunt. This was a little kid, Stark!]

Yeah, I'm sure you're right. Sorry.

[Yeah right.]

So Elfnein is a goddess? Was she in your other world?

[Good. His friends weren't murderers! Romeo is sad that this man even thought so. But he smiles again, forcing his spirits up and nods.] She is, she is the goddess Gegute who is a goddess of learning. [He thinks.] You mean the world I was when I was alive, sir? I don't know. I don't think so. She doesn't speak Italian so she wasn't from the same place as me but she might have been. She wouldn't have told me if she was but I think she was from somewhere different.

[Why would the goddess have another name? Whatever, he didn't actually care. He just cares about his boy, so he keeps listening.]

You were from Italy?

Yes sir! [He grinned.] I went to Milano and I can find it on a map! [He's proud of that, it had taken a long time to find it and even then he had needed Joss' help!] Do you got an Italy in your world?

[He responds in Italian.]

Yes, I do. Milano, Italy is beautiful. I love the countryside too.

[He remembers the trips he'd taken to the best spots in the country for vacation. Now that he knows, Romeo did look like one of the little Italian rugrats he'd seen in that country.]

What town are you from?

[His grin is so wide when Tony speaks Italian! He's not... actually sure what they were speaking before. Japanese probably. But he makes sure his tongue is being Italian before he speaks again.] Do you come from Italy sir? Did you go there? I wanted to go and Elfnein said we could but we didn't go yet... [And now they couldn't. He punches the air, to keep his spirits up.]

I don't know sir, I didn't remember that.

[Still in Italian, Tony smiles at him.]

No, but I visited there. I traveled through Europe quite a bit, but Italy is special.

[Even if it wasn't any more special to him than any of the other vacations he took as a privileged one percenter, he'd compliment it till he was blue in the face to see the kid look at him with such obvious joy.]

You'll get the chance, kid. Don't give up that dream.

[Okay but how was he going to convince the train to go to Italy?]

It is? [His grin grew wider at that. He knows so little about it, despite his tiny flashes of memory it is not much more than a dot on a map and a language in his head. Yet it is a bit of him, one of the few bits of him from before he died that he even knows about. So it's good to hear that mister Tony liked it so much!]

I won't sir! I never give up on my dreams, not ever!

[What are you doing to him kid? That answer just about killed him. It was so cute. He offers the boy a hug and then tells him where candy is in the kitchen.

He might need a minute quietly getting teary eyed once he's gone.

[Romeo hugs him happily and thanks him for the candy before skipping off. Despite a shaky start he thinks Tony is a nice adult, so that's a good thing!]
