Test Drive Meme 007

Welcome to our Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab some samples and start having fun!

1. Post with your character. I’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they have been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action!

3. Have much fun!

Happy testing!

Void Trecking

The thing about being on a train hurtling through void space is there’s not much to see. Outside the window lies an endless void of kaleidoscope colours shifting and swirling. It’s probably best not to stare at it too long. Do so and you might start to imagine order in it. Shapes, places, even figures. But your eyes shift... Back to chaos. Probably best you do something else other than stare out the window. Or convince your fellow passengers that void watching leads to headaches!

Board Games

The game carriage is full of games. Every board game imaginable from silly party games to serious strategy games that last for hours. There are a disproportionate amount of games about trains.

Grab some friends, grab a game and some beanbags and get playing! Dive into a world of deck building or play a silly card game. A great way to alleviate boredom.

Happy Holidays

You have arrived in a place which might remind you of Victoria London if Victoria London had floating palaces and was ruled by wizards.

Their rule is strict and any kind of Winter celebration is banned. You have been called by a group of rebels to help with an underground celebration.

Team One

Distraction. Be out in the city, keep watch. If the guards get anywhere near the secret entrances distract them. Perhaps by being a lost tourist. Perhaps by causing mayhem. Make sure the organisers and party goers can arrive without a hitch.

Team Two

A party is not complete without food. The party is being held underground and there isn't much in the way of kitchens and do help bake in people's houses and smuggle the food across the city. Careful of guards.

Team Three

The venue needs decorating and the presents need wrapped. It might be an underground bunker but everyone is determined to make it the best festival ever, despite the risks. Help make it happen!

Party

Of course after all that hard work there is time to celebrate before you must board the train once more.

Eat drink and be merry!

Paper's head turned at the muttering, noticing the stone woman. He blinked and seemed to considering something for a second - if she could cast magic maybe he could walk her through casting the scry spell. He realized that wouldn't work as it required some sort of medium such as a mirror or crystal ball in order to see, and, well, that was the issue to begin with.

Instead, he sat on the seat across from her and spoke, his voice a patchwork of many voices. "I can try to describe it to you, if you would like." After a moment's hesitation, he added: "If it is also alright with you, may I speak telepathically? It is easier, I have more words that way."

The kenku's voice comes as something of a surprise. February hadnt realized she was being listened to, and she's never encountered a creature with a voice like this one. It's very curious, to hear a menagerie of voices coming from one such individual.

"My apologies, I didn't mean to bother you. But if it's no trouble, I would like to know."

His second request doesn't bother her at all. He's hardly the first being she's met to speak with her telepathically - although he's probably the first to actually ask permission.

"Please do. You would not be the first."

Paper made himself at home in the seat as he settled in. He gave a small nod at the permission, more from habit than actually expecting her to see it. His patchwork voice was replaced with a surprisingly cheerful voice in her head.

"It is no bother at all - the only bother is that you haven't had a chance to see it!" The tone becomes a little more serious, gentle. "Do you know what color looks like?"

He hadn't yet taken to looking outside - it made the voices in his head louder and would give him a headache if he looked for too long, so he was more curiously examining the amethyst and the way it reflected the colors from the window.

February makes no move as the bird-person settles into the seat next to her. She doesn't visibly react to the telepathic voice inside her mind either, although she has to admit that the creature's voice isn't what she expected.

"I do not. One day, perhaps I will, but it was not something I was created to do."

It made Paper a little sad that she couldn't see - there were so many amazing sights to behold. From architecture, to the way grass could ripple under the sun and look like an ocean of green, to just the way people looked. Even she was quite beautiful in a way, though she'd never seen it. Paper made a quiet little bird chattering noise as he thought for a moment.

"How do you experience the world?"

He didn't want to assume she could feel things by touch since she was made of stone, but that could be a way he could illustrate what was going on outside. He could do smells as well, though that might be a bit more complex to work through with a spell just because of the ever shifting nature of the lights.

"I can perceive things within a distance of myself. Shapes, but not color or light."

Color and light are things that she doesn't completely understand. Aspects of the world around her that people speak about, but are completely invisible to her. She isn't entirely sure what the difference is between them.

"And I can hear, of course. And feel."

And that's it. No smell or taste, unfortunately.

Paper looked out the window as she explained how she experienced the world. It sounded as foreign to him as the whispers in his head did. He couldn't begin to fully fathom what that would be like. On the other hand, she certainly would have an interesting perspective on what the world contained. "What an interesting way to be! The way you imagine the world must be quite unique!" The mental voice was back to its chipper tone from before.

He's quiet for a little bit more as he takes in as much of the outside view as he can. He looks away as he begins to feel the headache creep in and as if his head is about to start swimming. He shifted a little bit to put his book on his lap - he was glad he carried it around with him like a wizard.

"I'm going to cast a spell on you, if that's okay? It won't harm you, but it'll create an illusion you can feel. I'm going to try to make my book have a texture representative of what one sees when they look out the window."

He would look to her as he waited patiently for an answer. He didn't want to do anything she was uncomfortable with.

February isn't entirely sure what to make of this bird man's claim that she has a unique perspective, so she kind of just shrugs at that.

"It is the only way I have ever been."

That's just about all she has to say about it. She hasn't really known any other perspectives.

"You are a wizard, then?" She asks. Her head turns to face him, as she considers his offer. The idea of someone casting a spell on her isn't the most appealing thing, but the fact that he asked before casting inspires at least a little bit of faith. "...you may."

Paper never felt any shame for how he came across his powers - he never quite understood the issue people took with warlocks, but he also wasn't aware of some of the other patrons that existed. His own patron, one of the great old ones, often did not care for the lives of their devoted - they oft were in it for something else. Paper? He just stumbled into it all on accident.

"Not a wizard, no. Those of the White Tower didn't deem me worth teaching. A warlock, though. It was a happy accident."

With her permission he cast phantasmal force on her and made the illusion that the book was a sort of texture-based representation of what happened outside the window. Each color was represented by a different sort of texture - some where smooth, some rough, some felt almost sharp, some bumpy, some fuzzy, and more. In addition each texture was on a geometric face, and the faces constantly shifted and morphed, as did each texture. Instead of a kaleidoscope of colors constantly shifting and swirling, it was a kaleidoscope of textures.

He offered her the book. "The top cover of my book should feel like it's shifting and changing. I did my best to try to capture how outside looks in it."

There is no judgement from February when Paper explains his situation. Honestly, she would have been more put off if he were a wizard.

The carelessness of wizards has done a lot to the world she came from, and very little of it has been good.

"I'm sorry, when you say you are a warlock, what exactly is it you mean? I take it you are some other kind of mage?"

She's heard the term before, but the world she comes from doesn't make the same distinctions between spellcasters that D&D does.

And then the spell takes effect. It's a strange feeling, to be subjected to an illusion and know it. Slowly and hesitantly, she reaches across and sets her hand on the face of the book.

The textures are bizarre, wild, and shifting, in ways that she didn't expect. The strangeness of it all makes her frown for a moment, before she lifts her face up toward Paper and gives him a smile.

"Thank you for sharing this with me. Is it truly like this outside all the time?"

At the word mage there was a sort of trilling laughter from Paper. It wasn't that she was wrong, but he tended to associate the word mage with wizards and people who study magic, which is not really Paper's thing. He wasn't formally educated, the study of magic and how it worked wasn't his life's goal.

"Yes, another kind. Wizards spend their lives learning how magic works and how to use it. Warlocks make a deal with some kind of powerful being and are lent the power of their patron. If my pact were to be broken I wouldn't be able to use magic. A wizard can still cast even without their spell book."

Paper watched her face as she felt the book, the frown being about what he expected. It was a lot to watch out the window; he imagined it was a lot of sensory information to take in at once. Her smile makes him brighten up though, like a parched flower given water.

"I'm happy I could help. Outside the train while it travels it is like that, yes. Other places are very different. And cause less headaches." A small trill similar to the laugh, but this seemed to be more of a chuckle.

A small smile of recognition forms on her lips as he explains the source of his magic.

"Ah, a bargainer. I understand. You and I have that in common."

Surprise! Paper isn't the only one on this train with a supernatural patron. Her relationship isn't the same as a warlock's, but there are definitely a lot of similarities.

"I had no idea it was so much out there. You said it hurts to look at?"
