Void Trecking

The thing about being on a train hurtling through void space is there’s not much to see. Outside the window lies an endless void of kaleidoscope colours shifting and swirling. It’s probably best not to stare at it too long. Do so and you might start to imagine order in it. Shapes, places, even figures. But your eyes shift... Back to chaos. Probably best you do something else other than stare out the window. Or convince your fellow passengers that void watching leads to headaches!

Relaxing

The newest carriage to be added to the Voidtrecker Express is a rock garden. In a glass domed carriage, flickering with the light of the void the rock garden is a peaceful and medative space, full of mosaics, a pond, fountains and small stony bridges.

It's also the closest to an outside space you have and so is likely to be used for less than peacful activities. Splash in the rivers, race around the paths. Or try and relax on a bench and read amongst the chaos.

Goblin Town

Goblins riding wolves, everyone's favourite foe. The wolves fly, obviously and the goblins fight with short spears, almost like knights on horseback if the knights were terrifying and demonic looking. They are causing trouble by harassing a small village.

Team One

Fight the goblins. A handful of weapons have been provided but mostly you need to try and outsmart the goblins. They can come from any direction, including up. Try and keep the village safe from their attacks.

Team Two

Protect the villagers, help them barricade their houses. Deal with any goblins that get through team one's defences. Some of the villagers want to help and that's alright, some of the villagers want to help and are still in single digits, that's probably less alright. Keep everyone safe!

Team Three

The thing with sieges is, some things still need to happen. People still need to eat. Babies need fed and looked after. Animals need tended. Try and help with the logistics of everything in the heart of the village, as far away from the fighting as possible.

Will casts his mind back to the way Merriman had once explained it even as he keeps his watch.

"Once, long ago, men lived among magic as fish live in water and as birds fly in the air. In those days magic was simply called knowing, for that has always been it's source. But men forgot and magic slipped into the forgotten places of the world." A pause. "And the world belongs to humans now. There is little place for magic."

Kaito swivels around and stares at him.

"That's dumb." He says flatly.

[lightbranded]

"It is the way it is," Will says simply. "Since long before I was born."

[stealsyourheart]

Kaito wrinkles his nose.

"Still dumb." He opinions. "All my world has got is Akako and... she's... um. Special." HAHAHAHAsob

[lightbranded]

"Special?" Will inquires. "Special how?"

[stealsyourheart]

"Well, she wants every boy to love her, and when I didn't she tried to force me to eat magical chocolate?"

[lightbranded]

"That does not seem like a very proper use of magic," he says sternly.

[stealsyourheart]

S H R U G

"I'd agree? But like. She's not all bad, you know? She's helped me out a few times too. She's ok when she's not trying to make you love her."

[signseeker]

Will shakes his head.

"It isn't that. It is... trying to control someone or alter their minds goes against everything my kind has ever worked towards. Our entire purpose is to make sure that humans have the ability to make their own choices free of any persuasion by magic."

At most, his kind would remove memories. And that only when there was no other choice and leaving the memories would cause more harm then good.

Kaito shrugs back at him.

"She's been pretty good since that incident so... hopefully she learnt her lesson? I mean like. We're supposed to want people to like us at this age, right? I guess she just kinda... took it to the extreme."

"That sounds like a little more than extreme."

But it wasn't really something that Will could understand.

[stealsyourheart]

"Well. I'm not saying she isn't a bit nutty." He shrugs expressively.

"But... she learnt. So... that's ... good?"

HE STILL DOESNT REALLY TRUST HER??? BUT....

"Anyone can learn," Will says. "At any time, the choice is always there, to choose to be something better." Even the Walker had been given that choice at the end.

But because it was a choice, there was also always a chance that they would choose to become something worse. And that choice too, was always there.

"Well. We're students still, so learning is what we're supposed to do..."

He shrugs.

"You look younger than me, but are you really?"

HE HAS EXPERIENCE OKAY

The matter of age was rather a difficult question for Will, seeing as age for an Old One was rather relative. The proper answer, of course, was that he was as old as the hills and as young as a new leaf. Both at once.

But in another sense he was only 13. And all of these were true.

"I have seen 13 birthdays," he says at last.

"The way you say that suggests that it isn't an accurate description, but okay. 13 it is. You act older though."

"It is accurate enough. Age is a relative thing," he says vaguely. "And I've been often told that I'm rather old for my age."

[stealsyourheart]

He snorts, amused.

"Seems I know a few people that could be said of. Are you going to be alright here? You don't need any special conditions for your magic or anything?"

[signseeker]

"Don't worry about me," Will says pleasantly. "There is not much here that can hurt me, I don't think. As for my magic, it is here as I am here."

[stealsyourheart]

"That's going to be useful then." He says cheerfully. "A lot of the stops here are dangerous, in one way or another."

[signseeker]

Will wasn't sure if he liked the sound of that. There was very little in this or any place that could truly hurt him. Not permanently, anyway.

But he had long ago learned the hard way that that didn't mean that there weren't ways to put him to the side for the time. And it meant nothing for the protection of the humans around him, who had been and could be hurt even by his own side. For the sword of the Light was one that swung both ways.

"How are they dangerous, then? Is it monsters like this place?"

"Depends. We had an exploding volcano and a mudslide on one world. Goblins on another. Dinosaurs... it's pretty variable."
