Test Drive Meme 006

Welcome to our Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab some samples and start having fun!

1. Post with your character. I’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!

2. Assume they have been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action!

3. Have much fun!

Happy testing!

Void Trecking

The thing about being on a train hurtling through void space is there’s not much to see. Outside the window lies an endless void of kaleidoscope colours shifting and swirling. It’s probably best not to stare at it too long. Do so and you might start to imagine order in it. Shapes, places, even figures. But your eyes shift... Back to chaos. Probably best you do something else other than stare out the window. Or convince your fellow passengers that void watching leads to headaches!

Relaxing

The newest carriage to be added to the Voidtrecker Express is a rock garden. In a glass domed carriage, flickering with the light of the void the rock garden is a peaceful and medative space, full of mosaics, a pond, fountains and small stony bridges.

It's also the closest to an outside space you have and so is likely to be used for less than peacful activities. Splash in the rivers, race around the paths. Or try and relax on a bench and read amongst the chaos.

Goblin Town

Goblins riding wolves, everyone's favourite foe. The wolves fly, obviously and the goblins fight with short spears, almost like knights on horseback if the knights were terrifying and demonic looking. They are causing trouble by harassing a small village.

Team One

Fight the goblins. A handful of weapons have been provided but mostly you need to try and outsmart the goblins. They can come from any direction, including up. Try and keep the village safe from their attacks.

Team Two

Protect the villagers, help them barricade their houses. Deal with any goblins that get through team one's defences. Some of the villagers want to help and that's alright, some of the villagers want to help and are still in single digits, that's probably less alright. Keep everyone safe!

Team Three

The thing with sieges is, some things still need to happen. People still need to eat. Babies need fed and looked after. Animals need tended. Try and help with the logistics of everything in the heart of the village, as far away from the fighting as possible.

Pick a team, go wild!

It was the natural order of things, to Thanos, that people ask him what he is doing. Such was the way of things, the way of people, of others. His mind was unfathomable to creatures of less intelligence, of lesser purpose. In this way, it is only charitable to explain, to give them a chance to glean even a hint of the world as he sees it, as it truly is.

"Finished, but imperfect," he replied.

That really wasn’t the answer Bucky was expecting, so for a few moments longer, he watched Thanos arranging the stones. It wasn’t often that Bucky felt physically small, but it didn’t intimidate him in the least. “If perfection was the goal, then it couldn’t have been finished. All the rocks are imperfect, anyway.” He leaned down, plucking up a stone with his metal arm and running his thumb over the rough surface. “Don’t all the pieces have to be perfect if the whole is?”

"No," Thanos said, instinctively. He wasn't sure at first why he said that, although he did not err in his words. He only had to walk back through his thoughts to put words to them. "Diversity of the pieces is necessary to achieve perfection. Perfection achieved by simplifying things, by making it monolithic, uninteresting - well, that is hardly a challenge. Hardly worth doing at all."

He was touching a large yellow boulder, one which he was using to represent his home planet, Titan, in a bid to recreate the structure of his solar system. He had not tried to make Titan perfect. No, he had admired the imperfections of it, had wanted to preserve them. But those imperfections led to its destruction. He grieved the loss of Titan, had wished that his solution for saving it had worked. But the shortage was in his solution, not the people of Titan. If only they'd listened, then half of them would have survived, instead of none.

"Perfection is an inherently subjective word, ultimately," Thanos said. "Or perhaps an inherently ephemeral one. Perhaps I use it not because I think it can be achieved but because I strive to eternally chase it."

Bucky crouched next to Thanos’s massive foot, carefully placing his rock back where he’d gotten it. “At what cost?” He asked, because he’d seen the price paid by some humans — paid it himself, for someone else’s ideal of perfection. “How far can you get before you start making something ugly instead?” He looked at his own metal hand, like it was the answer to his question. “It’s always so much closer than people think.”

Bucky's words catch Thanos off guard. It has been... a long time since he had a conversation. A real conversation with someone ostensibly an equal. He was surrounded by enemies and yes men and children. People who did not speak plainly to him, or spoke with obvious antagonism and need not be taken seriously.

The word 'ugly' has a particularly striking meaning to Thanos, shooting him backwards in time to Titan.

"Is ugliness so terrible?" he asked.

"Yeah," Bucky replies, more forcefully than he means to. He lifts his metal hand, letting the light catch on it. "Someone tried to forge me into something perfect, but instead I became a monster. I wish I had died instead. Even with the good things that came after, everything is tainted with the ugliness of this thing," every time he sees it, he wishes he could rip it off, but every time he tries it hurts too much and takes him back to the fall, when his real arm had been indelicately removed.

Ha. Thanos is reminded of his daughter, Nebula. He had tried to make her perfect, in largely the same manner, and she resented him for it just as much as this man resented whoever tried to mold him. Thanos did not know the goals of this human's master, but surely they were not as noble as his. All the same, he could sympathize with them. He wondered if this human had been chosen with the same careful eye as he had chosen his own children. Had he shown the same promise he had seen in Gamora?

Thanos knelt down and slowly unclipped the bracer around his wrist, showing Bucky the underside. Within a thick nest of scarring there was a mechanical implant.

"The body is frail," Thanos explained. "I've perfected myself. And it is the most beautiful thing about me."
luckybucky: (Sad and I hate you)

He looks at the implant, his lips twisting into a frown. "But you chose it for yourself," he points out. "But if someone else had done that to you, someone you hated, would it still be perfection? If looking at it made you sick to your stomach..." he wasn't talking about Thanos anymore, but it didn't matter. The point was the same. He sighs, pulling his hand back and looking up at the windows for a few seconds. "That's what it really comes down to. Perspective."
