Stable Duties

The latest carriage to have been added to the Voidtreckers express is one for large animals. It contains stables downstairs and smaller places for animals upstairs.

Until now the bottom half of the carriage has been mostly empty, with large animals new to the options of creatures voidtreckers can purchase from the shop. But as voidtreckers wake up one morning those going through the carriage will find they each have a creature in them. Large as a warhorse, with six legs, long necks and longer noses. What are they? What do they eat? Why are they here?

No answers are readily available but anyone who gets close will get a nose in their face and then an enthusiastic giant nuzzling them. They are friendly it seems. Very friendly.

Friendly Competition

The lower floor of this carriage is open and sprawling, with two wide, low tables and plenty of cushions and beanbags. The walls are lined with shelves and wooden chests, both filled with games. Board games, card games, you name it, though train themes feature heavily. On a shelf of its own sits a case of Duel Monsters cards.

The upper floor is split into two. One half has a pile of oversized games - lawn jenga, twister, giant connect4 - and the other, sectioned off with soft rope barriers, hosts a screen, a console, and a variety of video game controllers, including four VR headsets.

Perhaps you’re testing yourself in one of the VR Crisis simulators. Perhaps you’re learning the rules of a competitive card game a little too well, and your friendships are suffering accordingly. Perhaps you’ve convinced someone to play twister with you..?

Eggageration of Harm

The mission the voidtreckers are sent on seems like a very strange one. The annual spring festival of the kingdom of Fahr is in ruins after a hoard of raiders wearing rabbit masks wreaked destruction, smashing up festival stalls and stealing the intricately carved eggs that had been dedicated to the goddess of spring.

The king of Fahr suspects the raiders come from across the border from the neighbouring kingdom Fehl and has amassed his army to take the eggs back. The king of Fahl denies everything but has been given an ultimatum, if the eggs are not returned the two kingdoms will go to war.

Team One

Investigate what really happened. Are the rabbit masked raiders from the kingdom of Fahl or were they just opportunist criminals? Is war their aim or did they just steal for profit? Try and find out what really happened and, perhaps even more difficult, report the correct findings to the king.

Team Two

Find those eggs! The bunny raiders left clues of course, footprints and trails. Follow them and try and find the eggs before time runs out. The raiders it seems hid most of them, perhaps to return for later, perhaps once they realised they would be caught eventually. Recover the eggs and get them back to the shrines before time runs out.

Team Three

Even though the eggs are the crime the king of Fahr is concentrating on many people had their stalls and livelihoods wrecked. Help them by fixing up the stalls, recovering merchandise and even re-baking their cakes and other spring treats.

Stable Duties

Homura had wandered into the stables, curious as to what would be inside and what creatures were there. She had tried her best to keep herself hidden, hiding her face with her hoodie as she felt like she should be some sort of outcast, but these strange horse-like beings were not as accepting to the idea.

Getting close to one, the creature's long snout leaned closer to her, sniffing her. It gave a long snort, blowing her hoodie off and exposing her face.

"H-Hey... s-stop that." she uttered, waving the creature away and trying to fix her hoodie. Another snort stopped that attempt. "Okay... fine... no hoodie." The creature responded by nuzzling her. This caused her to gasp in surprise before she went to return the affection. "There, there... I'm here..."

Deep inside, Homura wanted to jump in and play these games with everyone. She wanted to enjoy herself a bit. But, the outer Homura refused. Penance and being stoic and all that stuff. She didn't deserve to play these games because of all she did.

Which is why Homura is standing in front of the Twister game, her face red as she'd been shanghaied into playing with others.

"I-I-I really don't think I should. Th-thank you, though...!" Homura stammered, trying to politely step away from all of this. However, she knew it would be doomed to failure.

Team Two

The thieves were sloppy. Very sloppy. They left too many clues, too many trails to follow them with. Homura followed one set of clues and headed into the nearby forest, finding one of the would-be crooks with one of the eggs.

Having already transformed, her hand went for the cutlass on her person. When Sayaka used this, she was acting as a hero of justice. Homura wasn't feeling so kind.

"Surrender the egg. Now." she said. "I will dye it more to pry it from your hands."

Team Three

Homura really didn't want to do this, but these people were needing help badly outside of hunting eggs. She decided the best thing to do was to help re-bake cakes and other sweets. Thus, you'll see the hooded figure running around, making sure everything is just right, working quickly to make sure they could be out in time.

And hidden under that hood is a warm smile, a little bit of a weakness for her.

Friendly Competition ~ Upper Floor

Kokoro's been through the lower part of this carriage before, though the upper floor was somewhere she had yet to investigate; this train felt massive to her, and her curious nature drew her to each and every corner of it to learn what she could. This particular carriage was interesting to her though; she could feel the emotions of joy and humor in the air, but also... anger? Wasn't this place supposed to be recreational?

That really got her wondering about the nature of this place. Deciding further investigation was in order, she plunged herself into the unknown upper floor, floating from place to place, until stopping at a DDR machine. The youkai cocked her head to the side, wandering ever closer.

"So many flashing lights... What could this be?"


Eggageration of Harm ~ Team One

If anyone knew festivities well, it was Kokoro; she'd been responsible for entertainment on numerous occasions. Even if those types of festivities were different , she understood events like those were important to people. So, hearing that something like that had been ransacked? It awakened an anger inside of her she hadn't quite felt since the incident she herself caused.

"Do we have any idea where they could have run off too?!"

"H-Hey..!"

The mysterious animals that had shown up in the carriage had taken Kokoro by surprise; not just with them being here at all, but they certainly seemed very friendly. Even if they didn't outwardly express that to her, she would be able to read their emotions regardless, and she could feel a sense of joy and cheerfulness from these creatures. Had the emotions in her masks gone wild..? No, they couldn't have. What these animals felt had nothing to do with her.

How is she supposed to reciprocate that friendliness, though?

Stable Duties

[ Back home, Sebek is part of the Equestrian Club, so tending to the stables isn't anything new to the first year. He does so without complaint. The animals in the stalls, however, are new, but he doesn't seem bothered. He lives in Briar Valley. There are bound to be a few strange, magical creatures about on a daily basis.

As friendly as these creatures might be, they still appear nervous from the tall teen's attempts to clean their stalls and tend to their fur. ]

Calm down. It's not like I'm going to eat you. Remove your nose from my hand.

[ Sebek's left hand holds a brush and is currently held in place by said creature's long nose. ]

Eggageration of Harm: Team Two

COME BACK HERE!! SUCH ACTIONS WILL NOT REMAIN UNPUNISHED!!

[ By now, everyone should realize that Sebek is loud. His notion of a normal tone of voice greatly differs from what most others consider normal. This is beyond even his normal.

Sebek gives chase after the footprints. He only stops when the tracks do. He circles back a bit, looking for a new pathway, but none appears. However, he does find one of the carved eggs just under the leaves of a bush. For once, he wishes Silver was here. Silver's animal friends would likely make short work of finding these eggs. ]

We will deal with them once we've located these eggs.

[Why is he so loud, why can't he not shout, at the moment Ruggie wished that Malleus was here because Malleus could be utterly terrifying, but maybe...maybe Malleus could teach Sebek the art of talking in a whisper? Maybe?

He wished that Silver was here instead. Silver slept enough, but Silver? He liked Silver. He could deal with Silver. Silver's animal friends could probably make short work of the situation. He found a crow and tried negotiating with her, but as crows were dicks, that wasn't any help.]

[Ruggie had found an egg of his own, which he's gonna force Sebek to carry- here. Take the egg.

And of course they will. Nobody understands petty revenge like the students of Night Raven College do. It's practically one of their majors.]

But, uh...gotta ask. You know the only thing shouting stuff like how you're gonna get 'em is gonna do is warn them, right?

[Why was he here teamed up with Sebek, Sebek's just so eager and loud...]

[ If Malleus or Lilia haven't managed to teach Sebek the art of quiet voices by now, then it's probably a lost cause without some magical duct tape. (The Zigvolt Family might have strong bites, but crocodiles can have their mouths forced closed with surprisingly little physical force.)

However, Sebek does take the egg without complaint. (Ruggie is his upperclassman, after all.) Now, he has two fragile items cradled in his arms. Ah... how many were there supposed to be in total? ]

They need to know the consequences of their thievery!

Team two

[This is not the type of easter eggs he wasn't to be hunting! It was far better when they were hidden items in games! Not... this! And certainly not with... him.

He's so loud...

How did Idia get teamed up with him? Every time Sebek raises his voice it makes Idia jump, he pulling up the hood of his hoodie even more to try and block some of it out. He should had brought and worn his headphones, he could had cancelled all of this out.

Then again, with Sebek no doubt that would just make him yell louder for Idia to hear him.]

Who cares... the goal of the mission is to find the items, not track down who did it. [Idia's going to regret saying this, isn't he?]

Homura wasn't the only one who had let their curiosity get the better of them; at this point, letting that happen might as well be Kokoro's MO. Although, unlike Homura, she wasn't exactly sure how to handle this sort of affection; her own experience with animals was pretty limited. So when Kokoro saw that Homura had a much better handle on how to treat these creatures, she figured at this point, it might be the best to ask questions.

"Do you know what these are? I have not ever seen anything quite like them." They were strange to her even with all the animal-like youkai she's seen.

“I do not…” Homura admitted. “They seem like horses… and giraffes…”

Another snort prevent her from pulling up her hoodie again.

“And stubborn.”

"Stubborn?"

That was an interesting descriptor; she couldn't feel anything like malice in these creatures.

"I can sense they're happy. But why?"

“I think because… they have people to care for them.” Homura suggested.

Happy. It’s a feeling she wants, too, but she keeps punishing herself over.

Maybe she should stop. She deserves a bit of happiness, right?

“Have you… pet them?”

"Pet them..?"

Donning her mask from earlier, she slowly shakes her head before turning back to one of the stable animals. Handling animals was not among Kokoro's specialties; she had hardly even seen something like a dog or cat walk by.

"I have not."

Homura looked away briefly. She wanted to show Kokoro what to do, let her be happy and yet she also wanted to drop the subject, Hope she would refuse.

She decided to take a chance, looking back at her.

“I can… show you how, then.”

And thus, a learning opportunity presented itself; not just to understand the emotions of these creatures, but to better understand her own feelings about them. How exciting! Even if her actual expression didn't show much, her interest was piqued.

"I'm listening~"

With that, Homura stepped away from the creature and urged Kokoro to come closer to it.

“You just… gently brush your hand against it…” she said, showing Kokoro with her own hand. It seemed simple enough, right. “It’s quite smooth…”

[Long black hair that could be in a shampoo commercial, check. Striking purple eyes that seem to stare into your soul, check. Pink ribbon that seeing it would send chills down Kyoko's spine... uncheck. Yeah, this is Akemi. Or at least, that's what Kyoko thinks until Homura actually speaks. Better check then.]

[She isn’t sure how Kyoko will react, so the hoodie is back up over her head.]

Yeah, I'm still not sure what to think about all this. Last version of you that was on the train, we didn't exactly get along. But that wasn't this you, so I'm willing to see how things pan out. Either way, welcome aboard the Voidtrecker express. Here, consider this a cabin-warming gift.

[Kyoko casually tosses a wrapped red bean bun in Homura's direction.]

[Homura catches the red bean bun, blinks and looks at it.]

[Kyoko pulls out another bun and takes a bite from it.]

Anyway, just don't do something as stupid as telling the Rat sensitive information and you'll be fine. Semi-related note, you got anything for keeping your Soul Gem clean?

[Homura decides to start with her own bun. Kyoko would kill her for not eating it!]

Kyubey is here? It's done enough damage... [Munch] ...but, I still have no idea how they did it, but... the other magical girls did something to me. I have a lot of magical power, so it... "self-cleans". But, I can't play with it too much. I might fade away.

No, she did that before she got on the train. Kyubey's never been here, and thank God for that.

[Kyoko takes another bite and looks at Homura with a curious expression.]

I've got my own thing for dealing with it, but... "Other magical girls?" I get the feeling you're not talking about Mami and Sayaka there.

No, not them. There are other magical girls. Ones who never contracted with the Incubator.

[She hangs her head a bit]

It persuaded others to kill them. Said they were enemies, fakes. All it did was just speed up the grief process...

That sounds like the Rat, yeah. Let me guess, it phrased things just ambiguously enough that it could say it wasn't technically lying? Got me with that trick when it said it was possible to change Oktavia von Seckendorff back into Sayaka.

Exactly. "They aren't real magical girls. They need to be stopped." "Not real" in the sense that they weren't contracted like us.

I used to hold some of their equipment as trophies, hoping to return them after saving them... I lost most of them after Walpurgisnacht.

I've met more than a few other types of magical girls since I left. Hell, I'm dating one right now. But I doubt the old me would think twice about fighting them if she thought it would benefit her.
