The way it works in his world is that it's not something that can be fixed through medical intervention because of how it is exactly he's damaging himself. I've been thinking about it because there are other qi users on board that do do healing, and while he can't heal himself, there might be some kind of potential there.
He would probably enjoy getting to learn a new skill. He's not very mentally stimulated most of the time, so he probably wouldn't turn down the offer, and the less he uses of his powers, the better.
