Mal was brought here without her spellbook. She isn't sure why, it seems like a perfect fit for the one personal item they're allotted. She wonders if it's because it was never really HER spellbook. Maleficent may have given it to her to use, but she never really entrusted it to her.
But she still has her magic, and she still has her journal. She can make it a spellbook. All she has to do is come up with her own spells. Which is time-consuming, and not the easiest thing to do in a public space with people around.
Still, since there are people here, she may as well make the most of it. "Hey." She looks up from her journal for a moment to scan the room. "What rhymes with 'cabin?'"
Rehabilitation
Mal's been charged with protection, which she finds both appropriate and ironic all at once. So far, the study's been going rather well, without too many threats presenting themselves. But she has an uneasy feeling that that's about to change. Flying creatures that look to her like something between a bug and a bird have been flocking in the air above the group for a while now. They've haven't attacked yet, but they're definitely following the team, and it doesn't seem friendly. Probably time to do something about it.
She drops back from the group a little, leaving herself room to transform. In a moment she's in the air in full dragon form, but the bug-bird-things are still there with her. Irritating. They should realize how outclassed they are already. She growls, which causes them to scatter about but remain mostly in the area. Apparently getting rid of them is going to require a show.
She flaps her way higher into the sky, checking that the air is clear and aiming up. Then she roars as loud as she can, shooting a pillar of flame as she does.
That display does clear the bug-birds out, flapping and shrieking as they rush into the horizon. It's only as she lands and transforms back to her human form that she realizes that it probably had that same impact on all the other wildlife in the area, based on the sudden stillness and silence. And that that might make conducting a wildlife survey a little harder.
"Sorry." She's genuinely embarrassed, gritting her teeth and looking at the ground. "We may not see much to study in the next... few miles."
