"It's really not," Evie says as she turns the page again. "One beings weird is another beings day-to-day."
Turning to give the red-tailed hawk a small shrug, she brushes some of her hair off of her shoulder absentmindedly and speaks again.
"My best friend can turn into a dragon. Her mother could, also, but because of a spell she shrank down to the size of the love in her heart for her daughter." A pause, a small frown. "She made a really small lizard. And one of my other best friends dogs can talk because he ate a magic gummi candy. This really isn't all that different."
Of course, she's also assuming that this whole situation is magic.
